When then Haryana CM Bhajan Lal tried to sabotage visit of Indira Gandhi to Narwana for campaigning for Shamsher Singh Surjewala.
Gustakhi Maaf Haryana-Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Remembering Shamsher Singh Surjewala ex Haryana minister and Rajya Sabha member.Surjewala senior Congress leader who represented Narwana assembly constituency was close confidant of Smt Indira Gandhi,Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. After defeat of Janata party in mid term elections in eighties Bhajan Lal then Haryana CM of Janata party had converted his entire government in Congress government.Shamsher Singh Surjewala was reluctant to join Bhajan Lal led Haryana government but he was persuaded by Indira Gandhi for joining the government. In 1982 Haryana assembly elections Bhajan Lal tried to sabotage the visit of Indira Gandhi to Narwana for campaigning.Bhajan Lal had managed a report from DC Jind that weather was not suitable for landing of helicopter in Narwana .A panicky Surjewala then had made call to RK Dhawan and was assured that Indira Gandhi will come by car and she came.During tenure of Bansi Lal Surjewala had invited Sonia Gandhi in some villages of Narwana assembly constituency where farmers had committed suicide.Rajiv Gandhi had made am impromptu visit of Narwana and had visited some villages with Surjewala driving Jonga himself.By Chand who was his PA for long time.
Ch Shamsher Singh Surjewala was a leader of vision and full of foresghtedness regarding development of his constituency, area as well as of State. He was fully committed to his work with full devotion. He always preferred to be punctual. He valued the committed officers/officials and have great sympathy for them. Indira ji and Rajiv ji had place in their heart for him. If Rajiv Gandhi had been alived he would have been CM of Haryana in 1991. He always took problems from lower to high levels. He was only leader in Haryana who was taking SYL issue seriously and he had major role in Eradi Commission report. If he would have been CM SYL problem would have been solved. More over he also sacrificed his future to groom his son in politics.
I have so much in memory his untold efforts regarding development of state.
In 1984 he told officers that electricity would be basic need of every citizen we should work on that more over two thermal power plants built in his tenure.
I always pay my respect to him. Hope the present politicians need to learn from him
I will always pray to God Almighty to bestow peace to his great soul. He remained careful that none should be hurt due to his words and works.
I salute him🙏🙏🙏🙏
