This event reminds of a similar episode of November 1950.
King Tribhuvan (1906-55) headed the Monachy in Nepal. But the Prime Minister Mohan Jangsher Rana weilded all the power and had virtually held the King as hostage inside the Palace. Indian government knew it and wanted to help the King. A German nurse and physiotherapist working at Royal House Patiala was deputed or planted as nurse for the 2nd queen of the King. She acted as a conduit between the King and the Indian Ambassador in Nepal C.P.N.Singh. The Prime Minister could not know about this plot. In the 1st week of November, the King along with his son Mahendra and grandson Birendra attived in the Indian Embassy and took refuge. There was a furore in Nepal as people loved the King very much. The Prime Minister Rana made the second grandson Gyanendra as the new King. He was only 3 yrs old. In the meantime, Indian Government sent two airforce planes to the Kathmandu airport and brought the King, his son and grandson Birendra to Delhi. The King was received as per protocol by P.M Jawaharlal Nehru. He also declared that India did not recognise Prince Gyanendra as the new King of Nepal. Protests of people of Nepal became uncontrollable and the PM Rana sent his two emissaries to Delhi for talks with the King. Finally, it was settled that King Tribhuvan would reconstitute the cabinet himself though Mohan Rana would remain P.M. Finally, King and his family returned to Nepal in February 1951 and took over his seat of Monarchy. Rana was replaced by B.P Koirala as new Prime Minister after 7 months. R N Malik.
