“Gustakhi Maaf Haryana – Pawan Kumar Bansal
CM Naib Saini Grant Rs 31 Lakh to Maharaja Aggarsen Medical College Agroha”
In a recent development, Haryana’s Chief Minister Naib Saini, granted a financial aid of Rs 31 lakh to Maharaja Aggarsen Medical College in Agroha.
However, the college’s plan to establish a cancer hospital on its premises has faced significant setbacks due to vested interests sabotaging the project during the tenure of former CM Manohar Lal.
Around two years ago, a Mumbai-based owner of a pharmaceutical company, who had tragically lost a close family member to cancer, expressed his desire to sponsor a cancer hospital. He wanted to ensure that his donation was used effectively and began a nationwide search for a suitable institution. Impressed by the charitable work of Aggarsen Medical College, the donor sent a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the college management and was willing to contribute even more.
However, the plans to establish the cancer hospital were thwarted when health department authorities, reportedly at the instance of Manohar Lal, denied permission for the project. As a result, the cheque was returned to the donor, and the cancer hospital initiative was shelved.
The hope now rests on the present college management, with the support of CM Naib Saini, to revive this critical project. If realized, the cancer hospital would not only benefit the people of Haryana but also the residents of neighboring Punjab and Rajasthan. The hospital was intended to be established in collaboration with Tata Cancer Hospital.
Maharaja Aggarsen Medical College, spanning 270 acres, has been providing essential healthcare services and offering MBBS and PG medical courses in a professional manner. It also boasts a nursing college and advanced eye care facilities. Founded in 1989 during the tenure of CM Devi Lal, the college has experienced many ups and downs but has continued to grow and develop.
At its inception, the Aggarwal community donated 20 acres of land, and the government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the college management. According to this MoU, the infrastructure costs were to be shared equally between the college and the government, while the government was responsible for covering 99% of recurring expenses.
During Bansi Lal’s tenure, there were plans to take over the college, but these were abandoned after his government was toppled. His successor, Om Parkash Chautala, sanctioned various grants and support for the institution. Notably, industrialist Sajjan Jindal donated Rs 20 crore for the establishment of the nursing college.
The college received a significant boost when General D.P. Vats, the former Director and Dean of the Armed Forces Medical Services College in Pune, took over as CEO. Under his leadership, PG courses were introduced, and the number of MBBS seats was increased. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the country faced a severe shortage of oxygen cylinders, the college library provided oxygen cylinders, with industrialist Naveen Jindal’s assistance.
General Vats expressed hope that with the support of CM Naib Saini, the college would receive the necessary grants and assistance to further its growth and development. The college community remains optimistic about the revival of the cancer hospital project, which would significantly enhance healthcare services in the region.
