GMDA CEO for Attention Please: Illegal Activities in Tau Devi Lal Park, Gurugram

By Our Enlightened Reader, Retired Sessions Judge Dr. Shiva Sharma, and Concerned Senior Citizens and Retired Officers of the Government of India & Public Sector

GURUGRAM, 02 Dec 2024 – A disturbing incident unfolded today at the Tau Devi Lal Botanical Park in Gurugram, raising serious concerns about illegal activities and the misuse of government resources. Several senior citizens, including retired officers of the Government of India and Public Sector Units, who were out for their regular morning walk, reported an alarming sight: a taxi with a “हरियाणा सरकार” (Haryana Government) logo and GMDA (Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority) sticker parked inside the park.

When the concerned citizens attempted to signal the driver to stop, the taxi sped away toward an office illegally constructed within the park premises. After pursuing the vehicle, the group confronted the driver, who claimed that he was following the orders of officers.

This raises several troubling questions:

  1. Illegal Office Construction in the Park: How did an office come to be constructed inside the Tau Devi Lal Park, a public space, especially after felling trees?
  2. Unauthorized Use of Park Resources: The driver indicated that the area was being used for storage, as stacks of pipes were seen within the park, further pointing to the unauthorized use of public land.
  3. Budget Sanction and Approval: How was the budget for such activities sanctioned, and who authorized the construction of this office in a protected green space?

The concerned citizens are urging the GMDA CEO and the relevant authorities to investigate the matter promptly and take appropriate action. This includes questioning the officers involved, the taxi owner, and the driver, who appear to be engaging in unlawful activities under the guise of official orders.

This issue not only raises concerns about the unauthorized use of public land but also highlights the lack of oversight and accountability in the management of public spaces like the Tau Devi Lal Park.

We call on the GMDA CEO to take immediate action to address this serious issue and restore the integrity of this valuable green space for the citizens of Gurugram.
