Former army chief General Dalbir Suhag and delegates from seven countries joined hands to work to face the challenges of climate change : Occasion was four days international conference organized by Bharat Scouts and Guides at New Delhi .-BIMSTEC SEWOCON
Workshop – Youth Led Action on Climate Change .under the aegis of the Ministry of External Affairs .In this
event 122 dynamic youth leaders from seven BIMSTEC countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan,
India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand took part. Workshop, was inaugurated by
Shri Jaideep Mazumdar, Honourable Secretary (EAST), Ministry of External Affairs,.
The main focus of the event was to facilitate discussions on climate action and promote
youth involvement in sustainable development. Participants had the opportunity to
collaborate on climate change initiatives, exchange knowledge, and forge partnerships for
environmental advocacy across the region. This event helped create a network of
participants committed to addressing climate change, where they collaborate, advocate,
and take meaningful action to develop solutions for tackling climate challenges. Among
many other senior speaker’s, a young prominent youth climate activist Licypriya Kangujam
from Manipur inspired by Global Climate Movement and one senior speaker Ms.
Madhu, from conscious planet movement, Sadghru foundation also shared their views on
Climate Action Plan.
Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, IAS (Retd), Chief National Commissioner, extended a warm welcome
to the attendees in his inaugural speech in the closing ceremony, expressing gratitude for
the continued support for the youth of India and all BIMSTEC countries. General Dalbir
Singh Suhag, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC Former Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army mentioned that he had never seen such a colorful and vibrant event
before. The initiative undertaken by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India,
is incredibly important.
Shri Vijender Singh, Indian Professional Boxer, Rajiv Khel Ratna Awardee told that It’s a
pleasure to be here for the first time and he is committed to contributing, campaigning,
and offering my help wherever needed. It’s a cause that truly matters. Shri C.S.R. Ram, Joint
Secretary (BIMSTEC & SAARC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Guest of
Honour addressed the gathering with warmth and enthusiasm. He highlighted the value of
the past five days, where experiences, expertise, and skills were shared, and important
regional relationships were built. Dr.Anil Jain, President BSG highlighted that over the
five days, we have learned from one another and celebrated the rich cultural diversity that
binds us together. As youth are the architects of tomorrow, we have hosted key discussions
and initiatives.
All the countries have taken group photos with the guests. The recommendation
Committee of the event presented their recommendations to the President BSG which he
has handed over to the Joint Secretary, BIMSTEC for further transmission to concerned
ministries. Ms. Darshana Pawaskar, Director, BSG proposed vote thanks. Shri Prassanna
Shrivastava, SOCNC, Special Director led the event.
Added feature of the event was the presence of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister
of Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of Labour and Employment as the Chief Guest in
the International Night .The Minister expressed his deep
appreciation for the ongoing efforts of the Bharat Scouts and Guides and assured his full
support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the continued growth and
development of the organization across the nation.
