Three years ago, a prime location near Sector 54 Rapid Metro Station in Gurugram was an illegal parking lot. This area, which was not only an eyesore but also a significant encroachment, has now been transformed into a commercial complex by Godrej, contributing to a substantial ₹500 crore revenue for HSVP (Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran).

An Investigative Journalist’s Hunch Unveils the Truth
During a morning walk, I came across a notice stating “HUDA Parking.” As an investigative journalist, I was immediately suspicious since HUDA (Haryana Urban Development Authority) had been renamed HSVP. To confirm my doubts, I contacted Chander Shekher Khare, then Chief Accounts Officer at HSVP, Gurugram. My hunch turned out to be correct, and a raid was conducted, resulting in the closure of the illegal parking operation.

The Struggle Against the Illegal Parking Mafia
However, just a few days after the raid, my source informed me that the illegal parking had started up again at the same spot. In frustration, I wrote a piece titled “I am small fry before the illegal parking mafia,” highlighting the persistent issue. After publishing the article, the parking operation was once again shut down.

Persistence Leads to a Successful Outcome
A year later, I was informed once again by my source that the illegal parking had resumed. This time, I wrote another investigative report, which caught the attention of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gurugram, Nishant Yadav. Acting on my report, he ordered a raid, leading to the permanent closure of the illegal parking lot.

A Major Commercial Development in Its Place
Following the closure of the illegal parking, HSVP decided to lease the land to Godrej for the construction of a commercial complex. The project is expected to generate revenue of around ₹500 crores for HSVP.
