The Congress Party’s Hypocrisy on Dr. Manmohan Singh’s Legacy
By Ramesh Gupta, Narwana
The Congress party has long been criticized for its inability to look beyond the Nehru-Gandhi family, with many arguing that it is futile to expect the party to evolve in its thinking. Ramesh Gupta, a concerned reader from Narwana, suggests that instead of naming its headquarters after Indira Gandhi, Congress should have named it after Dr. Manmohan Singh. Gupta emphasizes that Dr. Singh, who was a key figure in the party, should have been honored in this way.
The Historic Foundation Stone Laid by Dr. Manmohan Singh
In 2009, when Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, he laid the foundation stone for the Congress headquarters at 9A Kotla Road, New Delhi. This significant moment marked his contribution to the party, yet his legacy continues to be overshadowed by the Nehru-Gandhi family’s prominence within the party.
Congress’ Allegations of BJP Insulting Dr. Manmohan Singh
Following Dr. Manmohan Singh’s death, Congress alleged that the BJP government insulted him by designating Nigambodh Ghat as the site for his funeral, instead of establishing a memorial in his honor. Gupta argues that if Congress truly respected Dr. Singh, the party should have renamed its headquarters in his honor, rather than choosing to name it “Indira Bhawan.”
An Opportunity for Congress to Honor Dr. Singh
Gupta concludes that naming the Congress headquarters after Dr. Manmohan Singh would have been a fitting tribute to a leader who significantly contributed to the nation’s economic transformation. He suggests that the Congress should reassess its priorities and genuinely honor the legacies of its non-Gandhi leaders like Dr. Singh.
After all it’s Indira congress & not the Indian national congress. So Indira gandhi is all pervasive.
