In response to a comment by our enlightened reader Jaikumar, who questioned how firebrand Khemka will act in the Transport Department as he nears retirement, it’s worth recalling Khemka’s past tenure. Jaikumar reminded us that during Manohar Lal’s tenure as CM, Khemka, in his capacity as Transport Secretary, launched a campaign to seize over-length trolleys, but faced resistance from the government and was unceremoniously transferred. He was later posted to the Khuda Line till yesterday. The powerful commercial transport lobby, often seen as a money-making “KAMAU PUT” (lucrative source), played a role in his ouster.
Meanwhile, another reader, Ramesh Gupta, noted that while both Khemka and the current transport minister, Vij, are known for their honesty, it remains to be seen how effectively they will tackle the influential transport lobby. Gupta also pointed out that Vij seems more focused on overseeing the GM’s duties at bus stands than addressing the core challenges of the transport sector.
